SURFACE PREPARATION
New asphalt must be cured for a minimum of 14 days and new concrete must cure a minimum of 30 days prior to application. Concrete surfaces must have a light to medium broomed finish. If concrete has a smooth finish you will need to have it shot blasted to get a textured surface.
New concrete must be acid etched and washed thoroughly. Do not let acid dry on the concrete surface.
RESURFACE
Clean and Fill Cracks - Remove dirt and vegetation from cracks with screwdriver, wire brush or another suitable instrument. Clean out cracks with hose and water and allow them to dry. Fill cracks up to 1” wide with suitable Acrylic Crack Filler. Allow crack filler to dry prior to applying PicklePlay. (Dry time varies depending on width and depth of crack).
Clean Surface - Sweep all dirt and loose debris from surface. Scrub all oil and gasoline stains with household detergent and water. Rinse off the entire surface with water and allow it to dry thoroughly before applying the surfacing materials.
MIXING
Every 5- gallon container of Resurfacer w/Sand needs 2- more gallons of water added to it. Stir material thoroughly before using. Do not dilute PicklePlay RTU.
A drill and paddle mixer are recommended to ensure complete mixing of the product. The recommended minimum is a 9-amp mud-mixer type drill.
APPLICATION
Important: We do not recommend applying the materials when the surface is hot—generally after 11:00 AM. High surface temperatures can cause streaking, prevent the material from flowing properly, and lead to excessively rapid drying.
Always maintain the material in an 8–12 inch-wide pile as it is poured. When adding more material, pour it directly into the center of the existing pile—never in front of or behind it.
When applying the material with the squeegee, use the first third of the 36" Sport Squeegee to push the pile forward. The remaining two-thirds of the squeegee should glide over the area you have already coated. Hold the squeegee at a slight angle, similar to the position of a snowplow.
If you notice ridges appearing behind the trailing two-thirds of the squeegee, too much material is being left on the surface. Apply more downward pressure to the squeegee, or slow your pace to allow the material to move properly in front of the blade.
- Apply 1-coat of Concrete Primer/Bonder with a short napped paint roller. Not necessary on asphalt surfaces
- Apply 1 coat of TCS Acrylic Resurfacer with sand. You must add 2 gallons of water to every 5-gallon container. Apply with a soft rubber squeegee (50-60 durometer recommended for squeegee rubber softness).
- Apply 2-coats of PicklePlay RTU with a soft rubber squeegee (50-60 durometer recommended for squeegee rubber softness), with the chosen outside color over the entire surface.
- Mark and tape off the Service Box. Apply 2-coats of the chosen PicklePlay color to the Service Box over the outside color.
- Mark and tape off the Non-Volley Zone. Apply 2-coats of the chosen PicklePlay color to the Non-Volley Zone over the outside color.
Important! When using a chalk line to mark area lines, always use white chalk. Red and blue chalk can bleed through color and create stains.
Allow each coat to dry completely before applying additional coats or lines.
DRYING TIME
Drying time is dependent on temperature, shade, humidity, etc. (1 to 4 hours of dry time per coat can be expected).
PLAYING LINE INSTALLATION
Measure playing lines marking with a white colored pencil to the center of each line. Using a WHITE chalk line snap the center line. Tape lines with a Line Taping Machine for best results, using a good quality high adhesion masking tape.
Apply one coat TCS Line Primer with a roller or brush. Allow to dry to touch.
Apply one coat TCS Textured White Line Paint over the TCS Line Primer. Allow to dry to touch and remove the masking tape.
CLEAN UP
Wash tools in water before material dries.
WEATHER CONDITIONS
Important. We do not recommended applying the materials when the surface is hot. It can create streaking, material will not flow, and wants to dry too fast. Generally after 11:00 AM.
Application temperature (surface & air temperatures) must be a minimum of 55 ºF and rising. Do not apply when temperature is expected to drop below 55 ºF within a 24- hour period. In areas where dew or fog accumulates in the early evening, it is best to coat in the morning. Stop coating by early afternoon (3:00 pm) to prevent washing off, which will occur if dew, fog, or rain arrives before coating dries.
Do not apply if rain is imminent or forecast within 24 hours of application.
COVERAGE (APPROXIMATE)
1 gallon of PicklePlay will cover approximately 90-100 sq. ft., depending on pavement porosity (450-500 sq. ft. per 5-gallon pail).
PRECAUTIONS
Do Not Freeze. Do Not Store At Temperatures Below 50 ºF.
CAUTION
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. Protect from freezing. Do not take internally. If swallowed, call a physician immediately. In case of contact with your eyes, flush immediately with water for 15 minutes and call a physician. Store material with container tightly closed and upright to avoid spillage. Do not store material in direct sunlight or in areas exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. In case of spill, absorb and dispose of it in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations.
