Professional Two-Color Pickleball Court Finish
A two-color court provides attractive visual separation between the playing area and surrounding court surface. With the PicklePlay Base Two Color Kit, the outside color is first applied over the entire court. The service box area is then marked and taped before applying two coats of the selected contrasting color.

Surface Preparation
Proper surface preparation is essential for good adhesion, appearance, and long-term performance.
New Asphalt: Allow new asphalt to cure for a minimum of 14 days before applying the surfacing system.
New Concrete: Allow new concrete to cure for a minimum of 30 days. Concrete surfaces should have a light-to-medium broom finish. Smooth concrete must be mechanically prepared, such as by shot blasting, to create an appropriate surface profile.
New concrete must also be acid etched and thoroughly washed. Never allow the acid solution to dry on the concrete surface.
Repair Cracks
Remove dirt, vegetation, and loose material from cracks using a screwdriver, wire brush, or other suitable tool. Clean cracks with water and allow them to dry thoroughly.
Fill cracks up to 1" wide with a suitable TCS Acrylic Crack Filler. Allow the crack filler to dry completely before applying the surfacing system. Drying time will vary depending on the width and depth of the repair.
Clean the Surface
Sweep away all dirt and loose debris. Scrub oil, gasoline, and other contaminated areas with household detergent and water.
Rinse the entire surface thoroughly and allow it to dry completely before applying any surfacing materials.
Mixing Instructions
Proper mixing is critical for uniform texture and color.
TCS Court Resurfacer With Sand: Add 2 gallons of water to each 5-gallon container and mix thoroughly before application.
PicklePlay Base: Do not add water. Shake the TCS Tint thoroughly, add the required tint to every pail of PicklePlay Base, and mix completely.
A drill and paddle mixer are recommended. For best results, use a minimum 9-amp mud-mixer-type drill.
Two-Color Pickleball Court Application
For a typical two-color PicklePlay court resurfacing system:
-
Concrete surfaces only: Apply 1 coat of TCS Concrete Primer/Bonder using a short-nap paint roller. Primer is not necessary on asphalt surfaces.
-
Apply 1 coat of TCS Court Resurfacer With Sand using a soft rubber squeegee. Add 2 gallons of water to each 5-gallon container before application.
-
Apply 2 coats of PicklePlay Base in the selected outside color over the entire court surface. Mix with the appropriate TCS Tint. Do not add water.
-
After the outside color has dried, measure, mark, and tape the service box/playing area.
-
Apply 2 coats of the selected contrasting PicklePlay Base color to the service box area over the outside color.
-
Allow each coat to dry completely before applying another coat or installing playing lines.
A 50–60 durometer soft rubber squeegee is recommended for applying TCS Court Resurfacer and PicklePlay Base.
Professional Squeegee Application
Do not apply acrylic court coatings when the pavement is excessively hot. As a general guideline, application after approximately 11:00 AM in hot conditions can cause rapid drying, streaking, and poor material flow.
Maintain an 8–12" wide pile of material ahead of the squeegee. When adding material, pour it directly into the center of the existing pile—never in front of or behind it.
When using a 36" Sport Squeegee, use approximately the first third of the blade to push the material forward. The remaining two-thirds should glide over the freshly coated surface. Hold the squeegee at a slight angle, similar to a snowplow.
If ridges form behind the trailing portion of the squeegee, too much coating is being left behind. Apply additional downward pressure or slow your pace to improve material flow.
Playing Line Installation
Important: Always use white chalk when laying out court lines. Red and blue chalk can bleed through acrylic coatings and cause permanent staining.
Measure the playing lines and mark the center of each line with a white colored pencil. Snap the layout using a white chalk line.
For professional results:
-
Apply masking tape using a Line Taping Machine and high-quality, high-adhesion masking tape.
-
Apply 1 coat of TCS Line Primer with a roller or brush.
-
Allow the Line Primer to dry to the touch.
-
Apply 1 coat of TCS Textured White Line Paint.
-
Allow the line paint to dry to the touch and remove the masking tape.
Drying Time
Typical drying time is approximately 1–4 hours per coat, depending on temperature, humidity, shade, airflow, and other weather conditions.
Allow every coat to dry completely before applying additional coatings, masking another color area, or installing playing lines.
Weather & Application Conditions
For best results:
-
Surface and air temperatures must be at least 55°F and rising
-
Do not apply if temperatures are expected to fall below 55°F within 24 hours
-
Do not apply to excessively hot pavement
-
Do not apply when rain is imminent or forecast within 24 hours
-
In areas subject to evening dew or fog, apply coatings in the morning
-
Stop coating by approximately 3:00 PM when early evening moisture is expected
Moisture contacting the coating before it has completely dried can damage or wash off the freshly applied material.
Coverage
PicklePlay Base: Approximately 90–100 sq. ft. per gallon, depending on pavement porosity and surface texture.
A 5-gallon pail typically covers approximately 450–500 sq. ft. per coat.
Because a two-color court requires additional material for the contrasting service box area, total material requirements will depend on the dimensions and color layout of the court.
Clean Up & Storage
Wash tools and equipment with water before the material dries.
Do not freeze. Do not store below 50°F. Keep containers tightly closed and upright. Protect from direct sunlight and storage temperatures exceeding 100°F.
Precautions
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. Do not take internally. If swallowed, contact a physician immediately. In case of eye contact, flush immediately with water for 15 minutes and contact a physician.
Absorb spills and dispose of material in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
